My first “Blog” — Woodson Art Museum 2013 “Birds in Art”

So many of my friends and collectors have encouraged me to begin a blog but as many of you well know, it is difficult to slow down a busy life to begin yet one more thing. I’m sure I’ll get the hang of this blogging thing soon enough, but please bear with me… and please let me know what you want me to share.
I am very honored to begin my first blog with the announcement that my new oil painting “Floating Between Two Worlds” has been selected for the very prestigious “Birds in Art” 2013 exhibition at Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum.

The exhibition is amazing so I hope you’ll have the opportunity to visit. You’ll experience creative paintings, drawings and sculptures by talented artists from all over the world.
Organized annually since 1976 by the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, “Birds In Art” presents the very best contemporary artistic interpretations of birds and related subject matter. Each year, a jury selects approximately 100 works to take part in the exhibit. This year, 605 artists from around the world submitted 974 pieces of art. My painting, “Floating Between Two Worlds” is one of 94 juried artworks selected for the exhibit.
This exhibition produces a beautiful catalogue and I encourage all who love birds and art to contact the museum to purchase their “Birds In Art” 2013 catalogue.
My Artist’s Catalogue Statement:
“I have always loved the watery world. Growing up in Oklahoma, I spent endless summer days swimming, diving and playing mermaid in rivers, pools, and lakes. My parents’ friends often quipped that I must have gills. As a teen, I was the state synchronized swimming and diving champion to the Junior Olympics and spent years ”floating between two worlds” either in practice or relaxing. With this painting, the challenge was to capture the realism of an auk floating on the ocean surface and its enchanting underwater perspective. I unknowingly embarked on a personal journey; each brushstroke brought me closer to my childhood and home—reminding me to seek joy not only in nature and in simple things, but also in cherished memories.”

This is my second year of acceptance into “Birds in Art”. Those of you who follow me on Facebook might remember when I announced that my painting, “Strike A Pose” was selected for the 2012 “Birds in Art” exhibition. We were thrilled when the Tennessee State Museum chose “Strike A Pose” for their permanent collection!
